SJ23 Cross Country: Varsity Boys and Girls Finish Up Runner-Up District Champions

The St. John XXIII College Preparatory Lions cross country teams delivered outstanding performances, with both the boys and girls squads securing 2nd place finishes.
The meet kicked off with the Boys 5K, where eight Lions toed the line. Paul Cosgray led the SJ23 pack with a stellar 6th place individual finish. He clocked a respectable time of 17:03 for the 3.1-mile distance.
Cosgray's effort was strongly backed by Martin El Fady and Luke Ottosen, who finished immediately after him in 7th and 8th place, respectively. With three boys landing in the top 10, the strength of the Lions' frontrunners propelled the team to a strong 2nd place overall finish. 
 
Following the boys, the Girls 2-mile race began, Freshman Xixtlalli Castillo-Tu led the way, clinching a remarkable 2nd place individual finish. Her time of 12:44 was not just a personal best but also established a new SJ23 Freshman program record. 

The Lions continued to show dominance with Madigan Sero (5th), Maria Arriola-Alvarado (6th), and Alli Garrity (9th) finishing in the top 10. The girls' team placed 2nd in a tightly contested matchup against Houston's St. Agnes Academy.

The Lions will now look forward to the TAPPs 6A State Championships on October 27th. Let's go Lions!
