SJ23 Cross Country at TAPPs 6A State Championships
On Monday, October 27, the SJ23 Cross Country Teams competed in the TAPPs 6A State Championships in Waco, TX. At Creekwood Golf course, the Girls Team finished 4th, the highest team finish in school history. Freshman Xixtlalli Castillo finished 15th overall out of 132 runners. Sophomores Madi Sero (24th), Maria Arriola Alvarado (35th), Alli Garrity (40th), Kristen McCain (56th) along with juniors Samantha Court and Anna Gabriel all posted great finishes for the Lions.
The Boys Team placed 5th and were led by junior Paul Cosgray who finished 12th out of 121, just missing All-State honors. Freshman Martin El Fady (24th), junior Matthew Muraski (36th), senior Luke Ottosen(39th) with junior Taylor Adams and senior Alex Lawton had great runs as this was first time all top 5 runners were under 18 minutes for the 5K race.
With the conclusion of the TAPPS season, several SJ23 Cross Country runners will begin preparing for the Nike South Regional Championships, scheduled for November 24 at Texas A&M University.
