The St. John XXIII College Preparatory Athletic Department is pleased to announce the hiring of our new Head Football Coach, David Flora. Mr. Flora comes to SJ23 with 42 years of high school coaching experience in several sports. Beginning at Lorenzo High School in 1981, he would go on to Stratford High School where he was the football Assistant Head Coach, Offensive Coordinator, and Quarterbacks Coach. During his time at Stratford, he was the position coach of David Klingler, who would ultimately set numerous passing records at the University of Houston and become a first-round NFL draft pick in 1992.
Following eighteen years at Stratford High School, Mr. Flora served on the football staffs at Westside High School, James E. Taylor High School, and Alief Elsik High School. For the last fourteen years he has coached various offensive positions, special teams, JV soccer, and track and field at Seven Lakes High School here in Katy.
SJ23 and the Athletic Department are excited to welcome Mr. Flora to our school community and look forward to the upcoming football season.
There will be a Football meeting for all those who are interested in playing on Monday, May 15 at 6:30 pm in the Competition Gym.
