August 7, 2018 Principal's Message

Message from Principal Timothy Gallic
August 7, 2018
Dear Friends,

"The time has come, the Walrus said, to speak of many things, of shoes, of ships, of sealing wax, of cabbages and kings, and why the sea is boiling hot and whether pigs have wings." - Lewis Carrol

Welcome to St. John XXIII College Preparatory at the start of another fabulous year!

In just a week the students will start piling in for orientation, pictures will be taken, new friendships will begin, and old friends reacquainted after a summer apart. New faces and old will mix and mingle, the Houses will grow again as new members gain their place. Schedules will be checked again and uniforms will be dusted off. Summertime is like Blue Bell ice cream on Texas afternoon, it doesn't last too long!

Around the school the new Counseling Center is open and already in use. Situated just beyond the secure entry on the first floor of the academic building, the center is larger and better apportioned. Our counselors, Justin Matias, Heidi Mulrooney, and Megan Wells stand ready to assist your students.

Deacon Mitchican took up residence in a new office next to the Roar Store where he can be found much of the time. Please encourage your children to stop by and say hello. As you might recall, last year his diaconal ordination occurred during the school Mass. This year, the day after his ordination to the priesthood, the first Mass he says will also be at our All School Mass! A comparison may simply not exist, this may be the first time this has ever been done. It promises to be an amazing event.

Some of you may have noticed our new security guard has been making his way around campus. The increasing incidents of threats in schools around the country, as well as the openess of our beautiful campus, convinced us of the necessity to increase the armed security presence on campus. More details can be found below in this week’s news.

Each year at the start the school year we will have a new theme that encapsulates our direction. Last year's theme "Duc in Altum" was so apt for a year that began with Harvey. It helped define the need for us to reach beyond our comfort zone and seek for what God has in store for us. This year’s theme, “Come and See, Go and Tell” will undoubtedly shape the year ahead and guide us to new heights.

God bless y'all.

It is a good day to be a Lion!

Timothy Gallic
