Student Accomplishments Recognized at Awards Assembly

Students, faculty, parents, and staff gathered in the Crosthwait Student Center May 19 for the annual all-school awards assembly.
After a welcome by Academic Dean, Christopher Stuck, and an invocation by Fr. Scott Blick, the ceremony began with a reflection over the past four years by student body president and graduating senior, Elena Irvine.

The President’s Awards for Excellence were given to students at each grade level by Department Chairs Rhonda LaPoint (Math), Kristin Meneilly (Social Studies), Roland Millare (Theology), Tamara Romaguera (English), and Melissa Walsh (Science). Awards for elective classes were presented by Betsy Barry (Theatre Arts), Perla DeCastro-Herz (Languages), Wendy Elko (Performing Arts), and Melissa Neill (Visual Arts.  In all categories, the Principal’s Award of Distinguished Achievement were also announced.

Seniors Isabel Donalson-Newhouse and Erin Krusleski were recognized as being National Merit Commended Students and National Hispanic Scholars Isabel Donalson-Newhouse, Elena Irvine, and Nicholas Solis were announced during the program.  In addition, three students—Nicholas Barnes, Jack Budzinski, and Rachel Lee-- received full tuition and ROTC scholarships at the ceremony.

Other students recognized were recipients of the Scholar Athlete Award and students having perfect attendance.

As is customary, House Awards were given and the winner of the Roncalli Cup was announced by Tim Caruthers, Dean of Houses.  Lisieux House Captains accepted the trophy from last year’s winners, Aquinas House, and retain bragging rights for the next year.  A benediction by school president Fr. Steve Sellers concluded the ceremony.

The annual awards assembly serves as the last time that all four classes will be assembled together. Several awards that are specific to seniors will be announced at Saturday’s commencement exercises. For a complete listing of award recipients, click here.
