TAPPS Regional Track Meet Sees New Records, Sends Lions to State

On April 26 and 27, the girls’ and boys’ varsity track and field team competed at the TAPPS 6A Houston Regional Track and Field Meet at Awty International School.

This was the first season of competition at the 6A level for the Lions; nevertheless, the level of competition pushed many of our athletes to set personal and school records. In the 2017 season we saw new school records in the following events:
 
Girls 400m: Giulia Zaffaroni
Girls 800m: Megan Thorseth
2K Steeplechase (Texas Relays): Billy Devany
Boys 4x200m Relay: Omozusi Guobadia, Keegan O’Connor, Ian Craig, Thomas Ritter
Girls 4x400m Relay: May Le, Clare Cosgray, Natalie Lane, Giulia Zaffaroni
Boys 4X800m Relay: Thomas Ritter, Yosef Devany, Thomas Rider, Billy Devany
Boys Discus: Andrew Blick
Girls Pole Vault: Amanda Stoner, Morgan De La Cruz
Boys Pole Vault: Ben Turner
High Jump: Matt Stasia
 
The following athletes will compete against the best of the north and south regions, at the 2017 TAPPS State Championship Track and Field Meet:
 
Billy Devany (800m, 1600m, 3200m)
Ben Turner (Pole Vault)
Andrew Blick (Discus)
Thomas Ritter (400m, 4x200 Relay)
Giulia Zaffaroni, May Le, Clare Zaffaroni, Natalie Lane (4x200 Relay); Alternate runners Caroline Parent, Emily Rasmussen
Omozusi Guobadia, Keegan O’Connor, Ian Craig, Thomas Ritter (4x200 Relay)
 
The state meet will be held May 5 and 6 in Waco, Texas at Baylor University’s Clyde Hart Track and Field Stadium.  Coach Jackson, speaking on behalf of Coach Turner and himself remarked, “We are so proud of each of them.” Please wish the athletes well if you see them on campus this week.
