Lion Softball Start Season Strong

After a successful 2016 season ending in the first round of the playoffs, your Lady Lions softball team has kicked off 2017 with a pair of non-conference wins.

With victories over namesake rival, St. John, and Brazosport Christian, the offense accounted for sixteen runs while Coach Connor’s defense gave up one unearned run.

The Lions were led by senior Catherine “Cat” Connolly. Cat batted a .665 average, including one in-the park home run. Senior Chandler Matthews accounted for 3 runs batted in. Junior Valerie Grandjean also put up a stout .665 average while catching both away games. Junior Sarah Callahan batted a .600 average. Sophomores Alina Ramon and Savannah Arnold had .400 and .333 batting averages, respectively. Sophomore Lyndie Swanson provided a .500 average at the plate while pitching twenty-two strikeouts against forty-four batters from the mound.

When asked about this year’s team, Coach Christy was excited to say, “This team has already showed improvement from last year. We have more experience and a great group of freshmen that have come to play ball. Starting off with two wins is great for the girls. It helps build confidence and gives the ladies confidence in what they have learned. We look forward to having a good season.”

The game against Morton Ranch High School scheduled for Tuesday was postponed due to rain. Please remember to check the school calendar for the next Lady Lion Softball game! Go Lions!
