Class of 2018 Valedictorian and Salutatorian

St. John XXIII is proud to announce the valedictorian and salutatorian for the Class of 2018, Griffin Alexander and Keegan O’Connor.

SJ23 Valedictorian 2018
 
Griffin Alexander will be the second generation to attend Notre Dame, majoring in Engineering and Computer science with hopes of going on to law school. He is the son of Jay and Amy Alexander of Katy, Texas.
 
A National Merit Commended Scholar, Griffin has been a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, National Science Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society, and the International Thespian Society.  He has served as an Altar Server, a Lion Ambassador, and a House representative.  For the last four years, Griffin has been the St. John XXIII lion mascot, and he was a member of the ComedySportz team. Griffin has dedicated numerous hours to community service through Epiphany of the Lord Catholic Church where he is a member.  Griffin’s leadership abilities are strong, as evident by his commitment to earning his Eagle Scout rank and serving on the Archdiocesan Youth Council. It is important to Griffin to take an active role in serving his community. He has served on the mission field, organized a clothing drive, served the homeless, and worked with Alzheimer’s Disease patients. Griffin’s favorite memory at St. John XXIII was participating in the theatre productions. Griffin shared that once leaving St. John XXIII, what he will miss most, will be the memories made in Borromeo House.  
 
SJ23 Salutatorian 2018
 
Keegan O’Connor will be attending Rice University in the fall, majoring in Pre-Med and Kinesiology. He is the son of Terrence and Rhonda O’Connor of Katy, Texas.  
 
A National Merit Commended Scholar, Keegan has been a member of the National Honor Society, the National Science Honor Society, the Spanish Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and the Torch and Laurel Honor Society.  Keegan played on several sports teams while at St. John XXIII, holding various leadership roles. He served as captain of the football team, Team Chaplain of the baseball team, Captain of the Track and Field Team (on which he was named Academic All-State), and he was a member of the soccer team. Keegan is organized, thorough, and focused, which makes him a natural leader. He was Class President, Aquinas House Council Representative, Lion Ambassador, Link Crew Leader, Kairos Retreat Leader, and Junior Retreat Leader. Keegan possesses a servant’s heart, as evident by his commitment to community service. Keegan’s favorite high school memory was playing football in the homecoming game his senior year. When asked what Keegan will miss most about St. John XXIII, he responded, the close community of friends.
